Sustainable Tourism - a tool for development

Get involved: Suggested WTD Activities
Celebrate World Tourism Day 2017! The possibilities are endless. See below our suggestions of how you can get involved. Whichever way you choose to celebrate, make sure to Share Your Celebrations on the WTD website.

Spread the word

Use our Communication Kit and adapt it to your needs.

  • The message of the UNWTO Secretary-General can be freely used in conference materials, brochures, documentaries etc.
  • Download the WTD logo and use it for your web or WTD-themed printed material such as t-shirts, stickers or posters. Whenever you use the WTD Logo online don’t forget to link it back to the World Tourism Day website
  • Share our WTD Images on social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin) and join the conversation on Twitter by using the hashtags #WTD2017 #IY2017 #TravelEnjoyRespect #SDGs
  • Give a WTD postcard to your guests, colleagues and friends. Encourage them to write a message and send it to their families or friends.
  • Download the powerful Travel.Enjoy.Respect video and show it in common areas of your event or include it in your website. The video highlights the transformative power of tourism – grounded upon billions of encounters that occur every day – paves the way towards dialogue, mutual understanding and tolerance, the cornerstones of a culture of peace.
Hold an event

Above all, World Tourism Day is a celebration. So concerts, festivals, exhibitions, shows and parades are a great way to take part. The WTD Official Celebration will be streamed live on the WTD website. Feel free to link live to this stream as part of your own events.

Launch a competition

A competition – essays, photos, and videos – on sustainable tourism as a tool for development is a fun and simple way to get involved in World Tourism Day.

Be a responsible traveller

What better way to celebrate WTD 2017 than enjoying being a tourist yourself? WTD is the perfect time to reflect upon your responsibilities and impact as a traveller and commit to a more sustainable future.
